Devotional for Assurance of Salvation
Assurance is a positive declaration intended to give confidence, a promise.
As parents, we offer our children assurance. Assurance that we will provide for them, that they are safe, and that we love them. We assure them that they are capable and worthy.
All our children have to do is believe and have faith in us, as their parents.
Isn't this true with our Heavenly Father?
He offers us assurances time and time again through His blessings, intercessions, and a timing beyond perfect. Our Father assures us that He will provide for us, keep us safe, and love us. God assures us that we are capable and worthy.
All we have to do, as children of God, is believe Him and have faith.
But what's more is that our Heavenly Father assures us of our salvation!
Something we, as parents, are not able to give our children. None of us can force someone to salvation, but we can support and guide our children and others to understand the love of our Lord that he had Jesus die for our sins so that we could have eternal life!
We all doubt sometimes. Even after we’ve prayed the prayer, dark days or old sins can make us wonder, ‘Am I really saved?’ That’s normal. The enemy loves to whisper lies about our security. The good news? Our assurance isn’t based on how strongly we feel saved today—it’s based on Jesus’ finished work and God’s unbreakable promise. When doubt comes, we don’t look inside ourselves; we look to the cross and the empty tomb.
In marriage and family life, assurance of salvation looks like:
- Praying together with confidence, ‘Lord, we belong to You—forever’
- Teaching your kids they are safe in God’s love, not because they’re perfect, but because Jesus is
- Reminding your spouse on dark days, ‘Nothing can snatch us out of His hand’
- Living with joy and freedom because death has already lost its sting
- Modeling for your children that salvation is a gift we rest in, not a prize we earn
Take the time to read the Bible scriptures below and truly focus on what they are saying to you. Some passages may touch you differently than others. Writing down the verses in your own hand is helpful for some individuals. Possibly looking up the verses in your Bible may be beneficial. I use a NIV bible translation. Or reading them over and over to commit to memory. Whatever method works best for you to experience God’s words and feel closer to Him.
1 Peter 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Job 19:25-27
I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes - I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
Romans 8:16-17
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
1 John 4:13-16
We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
John 10:27-29
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Timothy 1:8-9
So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
Ephesians 1:13-14
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
1 John 3:1-3
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
Here's a short prayer if you're struggling to find the words:
Father, some days I’m not sure I’m really Yours. Thank You that my salvation doesn’t depend on my feelings or performance—it depends on Jesus’ blood and resurrection. Quiet every lie of the enemy. Remind my spouse and me that we are Your children—forever sealed, forever loved, forever safe. Fill our home with the joy of knowing we’re going home. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Try one of these today:
- Read one assurance verse (like 1 John 5:13 or John 10:28-29) out loud with your spouse or family.
- Thank God out loud for one specific way He’s proven His love to you this week.
- When doubt creeps in today, say out loud, ‘Jesus paid it all—I am His and He is mine.’
I sincerely pray that these verses meet you where you are today and that you have taken the step to put your faith and love in Jesus Christ.
God bless,
Melissa
